Who created it?
Gecko PostPrep was created by Gecko Art Studio. The goal is to make common publishing tasks—cropping, resizing, hiding sensitive details, adding captions and applying watermarks—available in one clear workflow.
Why is it free?
Gecko PostPrep was created as a useful, privacy-friendly tool and as a way for Gecko Art Studio to learn whether people want a more advanced image-preparation application. Processing takes place on your device, so the free version does not require expensive image-processing servers or cloud storage.
If there is sufficient public interest, Gecko Art Studio may develop an optional paid version with advanced features or dedicated desktop and mobile applications. This is a possible future product, not a requirement for using the current free tool.
Why local processing?
Images can contain personal material, private surroundings and embedded information about where or how a photograph was taken. A local-first design avoids transferring the working image to Gecko PostPrep for editing. The browser reads the file you select, creates a working copy in memory and performs the requested image operations on the device.
The image itself is not uploaded to Gecko PostPrep. When you save a finished image, your browser writes the newly created file to the location you choose.
What is stored on the device?
- The current image and its project edits are held locally while you work.
- If you choose a reusable watermark logo, Gecko PostPrep stores that logo in this browser on this device. You can remove it from the watermark controls, and clearing the browser's site data also removes it.
- If your browser supports local-font access and you choose to use it, the browser may ask for permission before showing fonts installed on the device.
What does metadata removal do?
With private-metadata removal enabled, Gecko PostPrep creates the saved image without carrying over the original location, device or capture metadata. The new file contains the rendered picture and the edits you deliberately applied.
Metadata removal does not inspect the visible picture. A street sign, document, face, vehicle registration, computer screen or home interior can still reveal private information. Review the image and use blur, pixelation or a solid cover where necessary.
What does the website connection receive?
Your browser must connect to the web server to load the PostPrep page, stylesheet, scripts and public images. Like an ordinary website request, the hosting provider may process technical connection information such as an IP address, browser details and request time. The photograph selected inside the editor is not included in those page requests.
What Gecko PostPrep does not promise
- It cannot guarantee that every visible private detail has been noticed.
- It cannot control how a social platform stores, recompresses or uses an image after you upload it there.
- It cannot restore detail that was absent from a small or heavily compressed source image.
